Luan Academy is the main setting of Dia's Wish. It is an institute which trains Warriors, the people who have dedicated themselves
to fighting against Corruption. Training for a Warrior generally lasts four years, though it can take longer depending on the circumstances.
It exists in a region similar to our world's China, and accepts students from many of the countries nearby.
(Other Warrior Academies also exist, but they will not be a main focus in the story).
Most of the students and staff at Luan Academy are women, due to the nature of Warriors. While this is by no means a rule, the common image
of a Warrior is that of a magic-wielding woman.
Warriors, once they join an academy, try to limit their contact with the outside world. Most standard citizens don't understand magic well
enough to interact with it safely, and most legal systems aren't robust enough to contend with the ramifications of magic-assisted crimes
or accidents. Because of this, Warriors tend to experience a separation of their Warrior-life from their life before.
Some Warriors are required by academies to sever all contact with the outside world, to the point where they have to change their names.
This includes almost all of the characters currently listed on this site.
Luan Academy, much like other warrior academies, enacts a mentoring system, where its first year students are all assigned a third year mentor,
with each mentor receiving approximately two mentees. Second year students adjust to life without their mentor, and third year students are
given the choice between mentoring students or guarding the labyrinth and gates. Fourth year students are generally apprenticed or interned
under professionals in their fields between classes.
The labyrinth beneath the school is designed to "bottleneck" any Corruption which tries to invade the world. It serves as a training ground for
blossoming warriors, and prevents the Corruption from slipping into the world in a more inconvenient place, like in the middle of a populated
city. Currently, it is largely patrolled by Aura.
Luan Academy is named after the luan, a phoenix-like bird from Chinese myth.
